Harlem Book Fair is Saturday! Can you believe I made the cover?

Namaste All!

Can you believe I made the cover of the palm card for the Harlem Book Fair? Wasn’t I just the girl who had a manuscript that no publisher in New York City wanted to publish? I’m pinching myself, really and counting my blessings. The real lesson here is this: You can do anything. Do you here me? Anything! One of my former writing teachers, Lori Bryant Woolridge use to say, “Wherever your mind goes, your butt will follow,” and it is so true. So Believe in your dreams with unwavering faith and watch how your life blossoms and change.

Not only did I make the palm card but I am also going to read an excerpt from LOVE IN A CARRY-ON BAG on the main stage. The plan is to have some musicians accompany me, so that I can recreate that Love Jones vibe.  Below is my schedule. Bring your friends, your spouse, your book clubs and anyone else you can think of, after all, it takes a village to make a New York Times bestseller!

Visit me at the Harlem Book Fair’s Mainstage:Outdoors – West 135th Street @ Malcolm X Boulevard
1:45-2:00pm – reading of Love in a Carry-on Bag

PANEL: INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING: HOW TO MAKE IT PROFITABLE

LOCATION: Countee Cullen Library Auditorium, 104 West 136th Street Auditorium
TIME: 3:30pm – 4:45pm

MODERATOR: Roland Barksdale-Hall, Managing Editor – QBR The Black Book Review
PANELISTS: Moody Holiday (The Black Divorce); Sadeqa Johnson (Love In A Carry-On Bag); David L(Represent); Tyrone Dent (Words of Divine Substance); Elijah Brown (It Takes a Child to Raise a Village)

Self-publishing is the publication of any book or other media by the author of the work, without the involvement of an established third-party publisher. The author is responsible and in control of entire process including design (cover/interior), formats, price, distribution, marketing & PR. The authors can do it all themselves or outsource all or part of the process to companies that offer these services. In 2008, for the first time in history, more books were self-published than those published traditionally. In 2009, 76% of all books released were self- published, while publishing houses reduced the number of books they produced. It can be a gold mine if you know how to meet the challenges. These successful independent authors will show you what it takes, and what you need to know.

Thanks for your support Friends! Books will be on sale all day so come by my booth and say hello and pick up your copy of LOVE IN A CARRY-ON BAG!
